Let me tell you about the Ewheel E-88 electric trike. If you end up buying one, IMMEDIATELY, remove a replace the fuse holder underneath the back wheels. The original fuse and fuse holder is a piece of trash. Replace it with a larger fuse holder and larger ceramic fuse of the same value. Then remove the front basket have a bike mechanic re-configure the front basket so it doesn't push down on front brake cables. By pushing down on the brake cables it causes the bike to use more electricity than it should because it causes the brake pads to push against the front wheel. That causes resistance against the front wheel. (the power wheel) That front brake pad will become worn much quicker than normal and you'll have to replace it often. Also purchase all three new tires with inner-tubes. The tires that come with the bike are also pieces of trash, but when you replace them with legitimate tires, it will make a world of difference. The seat will break with in the first six months also. It is also a piece of trash. However, I had an extra bike seat laying around that is use for a two wheel bike and I'm using it instead on my E-88. I purchased mine for around $1,200 dollars.
One more negative, it is totally absurd to have to get on your knees, lift the trike on it's side, pull out the power plug to plug in the external charger. I don't mind pulling the power plug to plug in the charger, put the intake fixture somewhere on the bike where we don't have to get on our knees and lift the bike on it's side just to charge it up. The manufacturer has to come up a better way.
Conceptually, it's a great piece of equipment. When it is running right, it takes me where I want to very efficiently and is a lot of fun. One thing to be aware of is that the back wheels are only about 20" apart which is a BIG advantage when negotiating in tight areas, but it's also top heavy, when you first start riding it, TAKE IT EASY. You could easily flip. Overall the design is nice, however the materials and assembly is garbage. The manufacturers went a cheap as they could. Be prepared to put about $300.00 more into it before it becomes fully operational.
Note: to the manufacturer, make a few design changes. Lower the seat about two to three inches. Put a space between the back basket and seat, so that a user can later purchase a three wheel tractor seat in preference to your cheap seat. By lowering the seat about two to three inches and moving the back basket about two to three inches away from the seat will result in a better and more stable ride. Use better materials, don't go so cheap. Still keep the price reasonable. You'll still be able to make your whopping profit, but provide a safe and quality bike that millions can enjoy.
