VForce Morph/Shield/Profiler Thermal Dual Pane Goggle Lens - Mirror Silver Review
I've been playing the sport for almost 20 years. I've tried every anti fog spray, and many lense systems. The sprays work, but usually only for one game or for a few hours, and never when it's extremely humid. I've used fans before, and they work, but they're no cure for super humid conditions. My personal choice for lense system is the VForce Profiler. It provides the best vision and protection for the price. With that said, THIS is my personal lense of choice.
This is the revered "dual pane" anti fog lense for the Profilers. The Dual Pane system is the most anti-fog preventative system on the market, hands down. In addition to the already battle-proven anti-fog curing on the acrylic of the normal VForce anti-fog lense, they include a second vacuum-formed pane, which basically means.. you won't have fog issues on the field.
If you're serious about the sport, or just want to ensure you can enjoy it, you need an anti-fog setup. Below I document some proven care instructions, and some of the reasons why this is the lense to have.
*** WHY I ENCOURAGE FOLKS TO USE THIS VISOR AND NOT AN ANTI-FOG SPRAY
In short: I'VE LENT MY SPARE MASK TO PEOPLE AND USUALLY AFTER ONE USE, THEY DITCH THEIR FANS AND SPRAY AND GO BUY THIS EXACT VISOR. My spare mask has this exact visor, in fact all of my masks do. I was a believer once I tried it. You will be as well.
Don't use the sprays. Get this visor. The sprays require you to put them on just right before each game, and sometimes may need to be reapplied during a game if you have to wipe off the inside of your visor. The spray also requires you to wipe down the inside of your visor which can cause scratches if even the smallest dust particle is trapped on the rag/microfiber. Even if there's no dust, particles of the rag/microfiber WILL come off and get stuck to the visor, and become "moisture points" and will cause fuzzy vision around the fiber. DO NOT USE THE SPRAYS.
With this visor you simply use it, clean it, and pack it away. It's ready for your next game. No need to wipe anti-fog spray on, then wax it dry and make sure to do it a 2nd time.. it's done already for you, permanently on the visor. Just use, clean, use, clean.. etc!
*** THIS PRODUCT IS AMAZING, ALMOST ZERO FOG ISSUES
I say almost zero because under the most extreme of situations I've had a little bit of haze, but it went away quickly with a breeze. I've used this in 110* weather with 90% humidity, sweat flying off of my face, while in the woods and it never fogged. I've used this while it's raining and had very little issue at all.
Regardless of the anti-fog measure, if you're a "sweater" like me, and it's 90% humidity outside, and it's hot and it's raining all at once--some sort of hazing or fog will hit your mask, especially once something gets on the inside like sweat or rain. However, the amazing part of this product is once a breeze hits your face the haze clears up. Like defrosting a window. You could couple this with a small mask-fan blowing down from the top of the mask onto the visor and you'd be 100% fine even in the most unplayable conditions.
Short of extreme conditions like I mention above, you will never have an issue. Even in deep woods with no breeze, high humidity and sweat, nothing causes it to fog up. Ensure you maintain the visor properly and it'll last you at least 120 hours or more before you might want to get a spare. See my maintenance notes below.
IN ALL HONESTY, THIS VISOR ALONE WILL SOLVE 99.9999% OF ALL FOGGING OR POTENTIAL FOGGING ISSUES, BY ITSELF!
*** THE MIRROR EFFECT IS AWESOME
The mirror effect is neat because it shields your face for a cool gamer look. But it serves a more practical purpose as well: It saves your eyes by limiting UV and excess light. If you're playing paintball for 8-10 hours a day like I do, or even just 2, the less constant light in your face the better.
It'll keep your eyes sensitive to "dark light", or movement and stuff going on in lower-light levels. This is a must for scenario and woods play. It darkens the sunlight by probably 1/3 to 1/2, but it doesn't make things unplayable or unable to be seen in low-light levels.
You'll still be able to play in deep woods with total foliage cover blocking out most of your sunlight.
*** PROPER MAINTENANCE
Here are the things to NEVER do to your visor (or ANY visor for that matter):
Don't use a rag to wipe down the inside of the visor, especially if it's a microfiber
Don't use a rag/microfiber on the outside unless you HAVE to (see below)
Don't use hot water to clean this visor (it will mess up the anti-fog coating)
Now, here's best practice for cleaning any visor, ESPECIALLY one with anti-fog/mirror coatings:
While at the field:
1. When needing to clean paint or wipe down the visor, use cold water to "wash" off the paint or dirt. I find that a water bottle with a pinhole poked in the cap works best as a "squirting" device. For anything which won't wash off, make sure your fingers are clean, wash them off thoroughly to remove dirt (wipe them with a clean rag if possible). Then use the squirt bottle to wash down the trouble area and use your finger to gently wipe it away. Take care to NOT damage the outside coating of the visor, and be warned that the inside of the visor has a clear coating--this is the anti-fog. DO NOT WIPE IT AWAY OR TRY TO PEEL IT OFF.
Note: It's good practice to run a clean finger over the surface area of the mask, VERY GENTLY, before drying it off. This will let you feel any dirt particles. If you feel some, wash off that area to get the dirt off. Repeat as necessary until the visor is as smooth as wet glass.
2. Once almost everything has been washed off, shake the visor vigorously to remove most of the water. If some droplets remain on the inside you can ignore them, they will evaporate/go away after a few minutes of use, and the visor will not fog up. For the outside, you can do the same.
3. You can use this procedure with the visor still on the mask if you're on-field and find a mask-off dead-zone, maybe your CP or the like. Just be sure to wash off any excess paint from the rest of your mask as well.
While at home:
1. Clean your mask/visor the same as you would above, and pack it away until the next game. It's easier to use a faucet than a squirt bottle of course. You can use a gentle hand soap (NOT DETERGENT), I prefer a liquid soap. Wash the visor down with cold water, getting as much off as you can. Note the clean finger wipe down method above, where you run clean wet fingers across the wet visor to find dirt particles. If you find any, wash the area down until they're gone. Repeat as necessary.
You don't want any dirt particles! Put a little dab of soap on the visor and add a little bit of water and swish it around. You can wipe it with your fingers once you know there's no dirt particles. Rinse heavily until all evidence of soap is gone. You will know your visor is perfectly clean when it is "Squeaky clean"
2. Do the same for the inside, being very careful not to damage the anti-fog coating! It's a rubbery clear coating. You might notice the fringe edges of the inside of the visor, be careful not to damage that so the anti-fog coating doesn't come off. Do not EVER let anything scratch the inside of the coating. Just make sure it's clean like above.
3. To dry it, shake vigorously for a minute. Almost all the water will come off. You can let it air dry if you want. As long as your water is clean and you've rinsed all the soap off, this is your best bet for the inside of the visor. I find it best to install the visor into the mask at this point.
4. Install the visor. Once installed, you may have some fingerprint smudges on the outside (DO NOT let your fingerprints get on the inside of the visor, it will need re-cleaning!). If on the outside it's no issue. Obtain a microfiber designed for glass (this is the very fine microfiber with no visible fibers), breathe some condensation onto the fingerprint area and carefully wipe them off.
Remember, the more frequently you wash this with cold water, the easier it is to clean and keep clean. It'll also be more resistant to paint sticking.
Following these maintenance steps will ensure you can use this visor over..and over.. and over. I've got one in use now for almost 2 years. I also have a spare as a backup.
I'VE LENT MY SPARE MASK TO PEOPLE AND USUALLY AFTER ONE USE, THEY DITCH THEIR FANS AND SPRAY AND GO BUY THIS EXACT VISOR.
