I did not purchase this board on Amazon, but rather through a local shop that had the 2012 models on clearance. But after seeing two 1-star reviews, I wanted to provide some feedback (and balance).

To address the other negative reviews, I have not had any issues whatsoever with the foam padding. So far it's been durable and provides plenty of traction. As for the fin, it's a standard FCS fin. While it's true that no instructions came with it, frankly installation is pretty self explanatory and as one poster stated, there are step by step videos on Youtube. The only thing that was still a question for me was where to postion the fin in the fin box. Again, Youtube came through and placing the fin toward the back of the box improves straight-line tracking and moving it forward improves maneuverability. I placed mine as far back as possible and it works like a charm.

After trying stand up paddle boarding on vacation and enjoying it, we decided to get one for a vacation home for use on flat, calm water. After searching different options, we settled on the Bic Sport ACS 11'4 based on reviews about it's actual performance and durability. After picking it up and trying it out, we could not be happier. It's extremely stable and tracks perfect for beginners (like us) and I'm sure it's fine for intermediate users. As for buoyancy, at 205 lbs, I was perfectly comfortable on it and was able to paddle around with no problems at all. My kids absolutely loved it - both my 13 year old and 15 year old were able to stand up and paddle with their friends on board.

I think that durability, at least in our case, is one of the key features of this board (if I'm not mistaken, Bic Sport has now renamed this model "DuraTec"). Instead of beng made out of fiberglass and epoxy like higher end models, this board is polyethylene (essentially plastic). While it may be slightly heavier and does not have a shiny look and feel, this thing is tough as nails. It's been banged up against docks, rubbed up against pilings with barnacles and flipped over several times on hard surfaces and it does not even show a scratch yet. I cringe at the thought of what a fiberglass/epoxy board would look like after that.

Again, we're extremely happy with this SUP and I suggest you do not let reviews about the padding (although I can imagine that shipping back for warranty would be a serious pain), or installation of the fin steer you away from purchasing if a very stable and very durable board is what you're looking for.
