The merino version of the Goodbye Girl ponytail hat is slightly sleeker-looking than the Polartec version. This came to matter because I wear them pretty much everywhere I go in winter weather.

I wear this sort of ponytail hat running and cycling, because when they are properly engineered they are warm and comfortable, and, when I'm running or cycling to music, help keep ordinary earbuds in place (eliminating the need for specialized "made to stay put" earbuds). For me, the foremost appeal of both the merino and Polartec Goodbye Girl ponytail hats is that they are well-designed and well-engineered. They stay put without feeling tight.

Because they are comfortable and keep my hair in place in windy weather without completely flattening it, I started wearing these hats everywhere. (I now own several.) I think the sleeker merino hats look better with business clothes, and other relatively-dressy attire.
